The Venice Cafe

I found this old photo on a Facebook page titled Old Minneapolis. I used to love going to the Venice Cafe. A friend and I would bus downtown frequently to have lunch there way back when we were high school students. We'd usually order spaghetti and meatballs because it was the cheapest thing on the menu. They also had really good pizza. I don't remember the place lasting past the 1980's. I don't know how long it had been around since it closed but this photo looks like it's from the late 50's/early 60's.

The Minneapolis Journal

I believe the Minneapolis Journal was one of the first newspapers in Minneapolis. I found this image online today.

The Washburn Tower

This photo was taken from the third floor of the school where I work. It's so hard to get a view of the Washburn Tower from street level. I just wish my camera had a zoom lens.

Photo taken January 6, 2012.

The American Swedish Institute Part 3

More photos from the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis. The top photo is a panel, I assume of Thor, from one of the many tiled fireplaces found throughout the Institute. The bottom photo is a wood carving of a lion and a serpent. Placed in the serpents mouth is a light bulb.

The American Swedish Institute Part 2

The top photo is a view of the Swedish Institute from Park Avenue. The middle photo is an interior view of the stained glass window at the top of the main staircase on the second floor. The bottom photo is one of the many beautiful tiled fireplaces seen throughout the old mansion that houses the Institute.

The American Swedish Institute Part 1

Mom and I went to the Swedish Institute today to look at their Christmas trees which are on display until January 8th. The tree pictured above was just outside the mansion's receiving room and was decorated with the traditional straw Swedish Christmas ornaments.

Hiawatha Golf Course

This is a shot of the club house on the Hiawatha Golf Course. Still cold (at least for this winter) and the snow we got overnight from New Year's Eve to New Year's Day has mostly stayed on the ground. It's not much but it is rather pretty.
