The Lowbrow

Dale and I went to Anodyne shortly after lunch hours today and found it insanely crowded. Glad it worked out that way. The Lowbrow, which is just across the street, was insanely good.

Fall In Minneapolis

It was a lovely fall day today.

Fall Color on the North Side

I'm taking a class at the Davis Center in north Minneapolis. This is looking north on Emerson Avenue just off Broadway. I'm surprised the leaves are so vibrant this year since we've been experiencing such a heavy drought.

Downtown Minneapolis - 9th Street and 4th Avenue

This photo was taken just outside Gethsemane Episcopal Church near the corner of 9th Street and 4th Avenue. It was a gorgeous early fall day today. The buildings most prominently featured in this photo are Wells Fargo Center which is just off center to the left, Ameriprise Financial Center just off center to the right, and, partially obscured by Ameriprise Financial, Cappella Tower.

St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery

I stopped by St. Mary's to visit Dad's grave site after church today. Some of the leaves in the cemetery are starting to change.

The Wyman Building

Dale used to work in the Wyman Building on First Avenue back in the 1990s. It had a distinct warehouse feel and I remember I loved visiting him there.

Lake Harriet Rose Garden

I also spent a little time at the Lake Harriet Rose Garden yesterday. I can't believe it's the only time I've gotten their this summer.

Lake Harriet

Yesterday was my last day of summer vacation. I spent a little time at Lake Harriet. It's my favorite Minneapolis Lake.

Buster's on 28th

Dale and I went to Buster's recently. It's one of my favorite neighborhood joints in Minneapolis. The following is a write-up from the City Pages:

"A number of great watering holes are tucked away in tiny pockets of the Twin Cities, but the Powderhorn/Nokomis area has a gem in Buster's on 28th. The atmosphere is homey but lively, and the gastropub boasts one of the most robust craft beer selections in Minneapolis. If you need the perfect alcoholic accompaniment for its awesome braised beef or barbecue pork sandwich, the staff is eager to suggest which tap will pair nicely with your meal. Some might complain about the pub's lack of hard liquor, but the absence of spirits keeps the bar's rowdiness level down - and it's hard to voice a complaint while you're stuffing your face with some of the best onion rings anywhere. The best thing about Buster's is its warmth, which is just another way of saying the area wouldn't be the same without it."

Buster's on 28th got the award for best neighborhood bar from the City Pages in 2012.

The Minneapolis Tribune from 38 Years Ago Today

I found this old edition of the Minneapolis Tribune from 38 years ago (today!) at an antique store near Stillwater. Pretty historic stuff, huh?! Our family got the Minneapolis Star which came out in the afternoon. The Tribune was the morning paper. Dad liked to read the news after work so we subscribed to the afternoon paper which, obviously, had slightly more current info. Hard to believe in this era of 24-hour news that the news was updated at only certain points of the day. I liked getting the Star because it ran the Peanuts comic strip. The Tribune did not. The Star and Tribune merged in the 1980s and adopted the slogan "Newspaper of the Twin Cities." The top photo is of the Star and Tribune building in downtown Minneapolis and, I'm guessing, from the 1960s.

Town Hall Tap

I haven't been to Town Hall Tap in a few months. Dale and I were there back in March. All the food is good but I particularly like the fish and chips and their veggie burger. When Dale and I first moved into the neighborhood back in the late 90's, this was a Greek deli and breakfast joint.

Great Shot of Downtown Minneapolis

Found this photo on a friend's Facebook page. I think it's a great shot of downtown Minneapolis.

Orchestra Hall Lobby

The lobby of Orchestra Hall is going through some major renovations this year. Major enough that the orchestra's entire coming season will be played at the convention center. This what the work looked like on Monday July 16, 2012. I snapped the shot as I was picking up Dale from having returned the van he rented for his gig on Madeline Island this year. Photo taken at the corner of 11th and Marquette.
